You have traffic. People land on your site every day, read a page or two, and then… leave. No form fill. No call. No sale.

You are not alone. The average website converts less than 3% of visitors. That means 97 out of every 100 people walk away without taking action.

The good news? Most of those losses are preventable. You do not need more traffic — you need a site that actually works when people arrive.

Here is a practical conversion checklist you can audit against today.

1. Your Value Proposition Must Be Instantly Clear

Within three seconds of landing on your homepage, a visitor should know:

  • What you do
  • Who it is for
  • Why they should care

If they have to scroll or click to figure this out, they will leave.

Fix it: Lead with a clear headline that states the outcome you deliver. Not your tagline. Not your company name. The result. Example: "We Build Websites That Bring in Clients" beats "Premium Digital Solutions Provider" every time.

2. One Clear Call-to-Action Per Page

The biggest conversion killer is choice paralysis. Too many buttons, links, and options dilute the one action you actually want someone to take.

Fix it: Decide the single most important action for each page. On a service page, it is "Book a Call" or "Request a Quote." On a blog post, it is "Subscribe" or "Download the Guide." Remove anything that competes with that primary action.

3. Remove Friction from Your Forms

Every field you add to a contact form reduces the chance someone fills it out. Studies show that reducing form fields from 11 to 4 can increase conversions by over 100%.

Fix it: Ask only for what you absolutely need to follow up — name, email, and a brief message are usually enough. Save the deeper questions for the call itself.

4. Add Social Proof Where It Counts

Visitors trust other customers more than they trust you. Testimonials, case studies, logos of past clients, and review stars all reduce the perceived risk of reaching out.

Fix it: Place a testimonial or client logo strip near your call-to-action. Not buried at the bottom of the page — right where someone is about to make a decision.

5. Speed Matters More Than You Think

A one-second delay in page load time can reduce conversions by 7%. For a site doing $100,000 a month, that is $84,000 lost per year.

Fix it: Run your site through Google PageSpeed Insights. Compress images, reduce plugin bloat, and use a content delivery network. If your site takes more than three seconds to load on mobile, you are bleeding revenue.

6. Mobile Experience Is Non-Negotiable

Over 60% of web traffic comes from mobile devices. If your site is difficult to navigate, read, or fill out forms on a phone, you are turning away more than half your potential customers.

Fix it: Test every page on an actual phone. Can you read the text without zooming? Is the button big enough to tap with a thumb? Do forms autofill correctly? If not, your mobile design needs an overhaul.

7. Answer Objections Before They Ask Them

If you offer a service, you already know the common reasons people hesitate: "Is it expensive?" "Will it work for my industry?" "How long does it take?" If you do not address these on the page, the visitor will leave to find answers elsewhere.

Fix it: Add an FAQ section near your call-to-action. Or better yet, weave the answers to common objections directly into your service description.

8. Use Exit-Intent Offers

When someone moves their cursor toward the browser close button, you have one last chance. An exit-intent popup offering a relevant lead magnet — a checklist, a guide, a free consultation — can recover 5-15% of leaving visitors.

Fix it: Set up a simple exit-intent popup with a single offer. One offer. Not a newsletter signup, a discount, and a demo all in one popup. Pick the one that matters most.

9. Track What Actually Happens

You cannot improve what you do not measure. Without analytics, you are guessing which parts of your site work and which parts leak visitors.

Fix it: Set up Google Analytics (or a privacy-friendly alternative like Plausible or Fathom). Track page views, click-through rates on CTAs, form submissions, and drop-off points. Look at the data once a week and pick one thing to improve.

Your Conversion Quick Audit

Go through these nine points today:

  • Value proposition clear in 3 seconds?
  • One primary CTA per page?
  • Form fields kept to a minimum?
  • Social proof near the CTA?
  • Page load time under 3 seconds?
  • Mobile experience tested on a real phone?
  • Common objections addressed?
  • Exit-intent offer in place?
  • Analytics installed and reviewed weekly?

If you answered "no" to more than two of these, fixing them could double or triple your conversion rate without spending a naira on additional traffic.
